Round Top Peak

Round Top Peak is the highest point in Amador county. The trail head can start from either Woods Lake (half way between Kirkwood and Carson Pass) or from the Carson Pass ranger station. The Carson Pass trail is longer, but has less elevation gain during the initial part of the hike. Proceed to Round Top lake (at the base of the mountain), then follow the trail up the mountain (it is on the left side of the lake, but not well marked). As you approach the top, watch your footing, as the trail is mostly shale rock and can be slippery.
