Lake Margaret

This hike begins a few hundred yards east of the Kirkwood Ski Resort turn off on highway 88. The trail head has a sign on the highway, directing cars to the parking area. This is a good early season hike (late April / early May) as it is clear of snow earlier than some other hikes. The trail crosses a large stream early in the hike (using a fallen tree as a bridge - see picture below), then forks to the right (the left fork goes to Kirkwood stables). The trail is mostly shaded by the surrounding forest. Just before reaching the lake there is another stream to cross and a short trek over a granite hill..
