Local Hikes
There are numerous high sierra trails in Amador county that are easy day hikes. The hikes listed here are some of the more popular trails, with easy to locate trail heads. Each information page has both a topo map and a diagram of the elevation changes over the course of the hike. Novice hikers may want to do the Granite Lake trail initially, as it is one of the shorter trails with a small elevation change. Lake Margaret is a good early season hike, as it not as high in the mountains (providing an earlier snow melt). The Lake Winnemuca trail is know for it's wild flower displays in late June and early July (arrive early on weekends to obtain parking at the trail head). Anyone having pictures of other local hikes, please send a short description and pictures to the Web Master (an information page will be added for that hike)..
